Looking up, inside the dome of the Old Courthouse in St. Louis, Missouri, artist Paul Jackson not only captures the aesthetic beauty of the magnificent architecture but the spiritual symbolism of this historic structure. Built in 1828, the courthouse is best known for the landmark decision in the Dred Scott case, where in 1846 he sued for his freedom from slavery and lost. The decision fueled the divisions that led to the Civil War. This watercolor is one of a series of architectural works by the artist from across the globe.
